About the Performing for a Difference Association
I founded the Performing for a Difference Association (PFAD) in 2023. As a pianist who’d been performing for over 10 years at the time, I had many opportunities to perform, with almost monthly invitations to some concert or another. These regular concerts were what built my prowess in performance and helped me dramatically to prepare for competitions. Yet, I wished that I’d had these performances years ago; I was keenly aware that, as an aspiring musician, these opportunities are few and far between. This is what motivated me to found PFAD.
Our over 100 members hold frequent fundraisers and concerts in a variety of venues, from emergency shelters to senior homes. PFAD holds regular concerts at The Madison Care Centre (the first Saturday of every month) and at Lakeshore Care Centre (the second Sunday of every month). We have raised over 12,500 CAD for cancer research, 1000 CAD for Covenant House Vancouver, and more.
Today, PFAD’s mission is not only to provide these performance opportunities to young musicians, but also to channel their talent into giving back to the community. PFAD has partnered and worked with organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Covenant House Vancouver, and the Progressive Housing Society, to fundraise for cancer research as well as to provide music for those who appreciate it as much as anyone, yet lack opportunity to experience it.
